Students in the lab are engaged in a variety of outreach activities including:

High School Science Teachersm The NSF Funded CREST Project, ACS Seed Funded High School student mentoring in summer research, Girl Scouts and a variety of On Campus Activities

 An NSF RET Supplement  supported Ms Louise Zhou, a High School Chemistry teacher from Sunrise Mountain High School in Clark County School District in Nevada.  Ms Zhou spent a 5 week summer research experience at the University of San Diego working with Drs Jessica, and Ellis Bell (CoPI and PI respectively of our current IUSE project, “An Interdisciplinary Faculty Community Using a Protein-focused Course Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) to Improve Student Learning,” NSF DUE Award 1726932. Ms Zhou’s project allowed her to be involved in every aspect of our research project and participate in specific activities designed to develop materials to allow her to transfer what she learns to her classroom activities and the development of a sustainable long term collaboration.
